The Maelstrom comes with seven mod slots, which can support a wide range of helpful attachments such as Suppressors, Semi-Automatic Receivers, and Scopes, allowing you to customize this weapon to fit your playstyle. Occasionally, You can find Bounty Quests on the Mission Board kiosks of major cities and settlements that will lead you to a location with plenty of Spacers, such as the bounty mission in the screenshot above.

Should you encounter a Pirate starship in space, you'll have a chance to disable and board a starship that contains a Pirate crew that can drop Maelstrom, armor, and other helpful useful items. You can find these Pirates in many random locations while questing and exploring, but they are typically encountered in planet and moon surface structures such as Abandoned Hangars, Deserted Relay Stations, Deserted UC Listening Posts, Abandoned Weapon Stations, and more. Pirates are a group of dangerous Crimson Fleet outlaws you'll encounter who frequently drop the Maelstrom when defeated.
